Language Requirement Explained

Here’s what you need to know about the language requirement to apply for the Kolkata Police Constable Recruitment 2024. All applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the Bengali language, enclickpassing speaking, reading, and writing skills. However, exceptions are made for permanent residents of hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong Districts, who fall under the provisions of the West Bengal Official Language Act, 1961 (West Ben. Act XXIV of 1961).

Exemption Clause Residents falling under the hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong Districts are exempt from the Bengali language proficiency requirement. Instead, the provisions of the West Bengal Official Language Act, 1961 (West Ben. Act XXIV of 1961) apply to them.

Age Requirements

To be eligible for the Kolkata Police Constables Recruitment 2024, candidates must adhere to the following age criteria:

1. Minimum Age: Applicants must be at least 18 (Eighteen) years old as of January 1, 2024.
2. Maximum Age: Candidates must not exceed 30 (Thirty) years old as of January 1, 2024.

Age Relaxation

The upper age limit is subject to relaxation under certain circumstances:

a) Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes: Relaxation of up to 5 (five) years.

b) Other Backward Classes-A and Other Backward Classes-B: Relaxation of up to 3 (three) years.

c) Third Gender/Transgender Persons: Relaxation of up to 3 (three) years.

d) Civic Volunteers serving in Kolkata Police: Relaxation of up to 5 (five) years.

e) Ex-servicemen Candidates: Relaxation based on the total number of years of clickpleted service, with a maximum age limit of 40 (forty) years.

Additional Notes:

i) Third Gender/Transgender Candidates: OBC-A, OBC-B, and Unreserved category candidates can avail a maximum age relaxation of 3 (three) years, while Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribe candidates can avail a maximum age relaxation of 5 (five) years.

ii) Civic Volunteers: Candidates from any category are eligible for a maximum age relaxation of 5 (five) years.
